Hailing from a small village of Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh, Farina came to Blind Welfare Society in August 2023. Farina has a dream to pursue her graduation from a reputed college of Delhi University. We supported her throughout the admission process. In the end, our efforts paid off as Farina got admission in Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College of Delhi University. Most importantly, her confidence and perseverance did not let her impairment come in the way of her journey towards success.
“With the help of computers, I can do my work quickly and conveniently. Technology eases out everything,” she says. “I have an android phone with software in it that speaks out everything. So, I don’t need anyone’s help to read out numbers to me or to save a number for me. I have my laptop which has a screen reader because of which I don’t need anyone to read out the written text to me. I can read it for myself. If technology is used in a good way it can be very helpful. For us [visually impaired people] it is truly a blessing. The process of education also becomes a lot easier with technology.” She is a strong-willed person who encourages her friends at the hostel to study diligently despite challenges.

Maa and Papa weren’t the happiest when I was born. They thought I was a burden to them.
